Through interactive objects and installations Deb Todd Wheeler explores technology as a mediator for human interaction with the environment. Over the past few the central focus of her work has been to examine the role of science in relation to our human lives through a lens that encompasses the nineteenth century, the 1960s and cutting edge robotic technologies. Using the vernacular of the 19th century, a time when art and science were more closely linked, she investigates alternative avenues for power that reflect our growing concern with sustainability today. Wheeler is on the Graduate Faculty at the Art Institute of Boston, and also teaches in the Metals Department at Massachusetts College of Art. Recently her work has shown at the Kohler Arts Center Project Space in Wisconsin, and The Gallery at Green Street in Boston, where it was well received by the critical media, including a glowing review in Art in America, and was picked as one of the top ten exhibits in the city of Boston by the Boston Globe. She has been the recipient of numerous awards, including an individual artist grant from the Artist Resource Trust, a LEF Contemporary Work Fund Art
